Itsy-Bitsy 2022 Chardy

Itsy Bitsy is made from seven rows of Clone 5 Chardonnay planted in 1996. Redtail Creek is located in Rosa Glen, South-east of Margaret river, which experiences a larger diurnal range compared to the more coastal and Northern growing regions of the south west. Soils on the block are loamy with a high content of white clay.

The fruit was picked in late February after a very consistent ripening period with minimal heat spikes. After being picked, the fruit was pressed to one new oak and five neutral oak barrels for fermentation. After fermentation two barrels were left for elevage, one being the new oak, whilst the rest of the wine was racked to a stainless steel tank to maintain its freshness and reduce the overall oak characteristic of the wine. The two barrels were left untopped, giving this portion of the wine an oxidative, Jura-esque quality. The wine was then bottled after ageing twelve months in tank and barrel.
